about neighbourhood action group

The Beaconsfield Neighborhood Action Group was formed in 2006 by a committed team of people representing various sectors of the community, including Thames Valley Police, Town, District and County Councils, local schools, the youth service and of course, local residents.

This follows on from the various public meetings held during the Summer when more than 100 people attended to voice their concerns. Three key priorities were identified at these public meetings which were:-

Speeding
Parking
Youth Issues

Under the Chairmanship of Andre de Marsac, members of the NAG met for the first time on 25th September 2006 and an action plan was drawn up, setting police officers and the partners involved in the group individual responsibilities and actions. It was agreed that the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Action Group's role would be to work on the three priorities identified at the public meetings and ensure action was taken to tackle them. A clear message also came from the members that the NAG should focus on the young people of Beaconsfield and give them every encouragement to become involved.

The Beaconsfield NAG has established itself as one of the leading groups within the Thames Valley Police Authority area and each sub group within the NAG has started to make a difference.

For example, the Speeding Committe has run Speed Focus Weeks, was instrumental in securing funding for new road markings around Beaconsfield, a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) in Holtspur Top Lane and secured substantial funds for the NAG to own its own Speed Indicator Device (SID).

The Parking Committee has run a successful Parking Focus week and is working on some imaginative ideas to reduce the problem of parking spaces in Beaconsfield.

The Youth Issues Committee, in conjunction with Thames Valley Police, run weekly mobile Police Surgeries in different parts of the town and ran a major competition for the young people of Beaconsfield to design a logo for the Beaconsfield NAG.

The Group meets every six weeks with the aim to reduce crime and disorder, and to involve the community in working together to develop and implement solutions to problems in Beaconsfield and Holtspur, and to therefore make it a better and safer place to live.
