The Freedom of Information Act (FOI Act) became law in 2000 and came into force on the 1st January 2005. The Act was introduced to encourage public organisations to publish more information on their activities and develop a greater culture of openness. The Act gives a general right of access to information held by Beaconsfield Town Council, subject to certain exemptions outlined in the Act and applies to information that is held electronically and on paper.
There are certain exemptions and limitations on this general right, but each case will be dealt with on its merits.
Requests for information must be made in writing, by letter or e-mail, giving the applicant’s name and address together with the describe of the information requested in such a way that it can be located easily. All written requests for information will be recorded and receipt acknowledged with a receipt.
Current information will only be either hard copy or electronic. Website. For hard copy information there will be a charge of 30p/A4 sheet. Electronic information will be free.
